The Art of the Atelier: CHANEL le19M at Museum of Art Pudong

From 25 September to 15 November 2026, the Museum of Art Pudong becomes a quiet stage for CHANEL's le19M — a celebration of the house's haute couture métiers. An intimate, craft-led kind of luxury, best paired with the Lujiazui waterfront and a private car between them.

A house of craft, by the river

From 25 September to 15 November 2026, the Museum of Art Pudong (浦东美术馆, on the Lujiazui waterfront) hosts la Galerie du 19M Shanghai — CHANEL's touring celebration of le19M, the Parisian home of the house's eleven haute couture métiers. It is the third chapter of the project and its first in Asia, conceived as a two-month cultural event rather than a single exhibition.

The setting is deliberate. le19M in Paris gathers more than 700 artisans across ateliers devoted to embroidery, featherwork, millinery, shoemaking and the other disciplines that give couture its hand. Brought to Shanghai, that world opens as an immersive, walk-through study of craft — tools, techniques and finished work laid out so you can follow a piece from idea to object.

  • •25 September – 15 November 2026, at the Museum of Art Pudong (浦东美术馆)
  • •le19M's first chapter in Asia, its third worldwide
  • •Eleven haute couture métiers under one roof
  • •A two-month cultural event, not a week-long fair

Why it rewards the slow visitor

The exhibition is built around a group show of French and Chinese artists and artisans, with a centenary look at the Lesage embroidery atelier at its core. The pleasure is in the detail: a single panel of hand embroidery can hold thousands of stitches, and the show gives you the time and the context to actually see them.

Treat it as a collector's interlude rather than a gallery checklist. The curators have framed the house's métiers as a conversation between French savoir-faire and China's own living craft traditions — a dialogue that reads more deeply the longer you linger. Arrive unhurried and let the riverfront light do the rest.

  • •A Franco-Chinese craft dialogue, not a monologue
  • •Lesage embroidery centenary at the heart of the show
  • •Immersive, tool-to-finished-piece storytelling
  • •A collector's interlude, best taken slowly

Your private guide secures the Museum of Art Pudong tickets, handles transfers between the Lujiazui waterfront, your hotel and the Bund, and builds the day around Shanghai's contemporary art and design districts. All-inclusive private vehicle, guide, admissions and bottled water.

Compose a day of craft and skyline

The elegant plan: a late-morning visit to the museum, then lunch with a view over the Huangpu, followed by the short ascent to the Shanghai Tower observation deck as the afternoon light shifts. A private car keeps every move effortless and the pace gracious — no queues, no timetables to chase.

Close across the river on the Bund, where a rooftop or river-view table turns a day of quiet craft into a skyline finale. The contrast — intimate handwork by day, the lit city by night — is exactly the composed Shanghai evening worth arranging in advance.

  • •Late-morning museum visit to a waterfront lunch
  • •Shanghai Tower observation deck in the afternoon light
  • •Private car between every stop, no logistics to manage
  • •A Bund rooftop dinner to close the day

Practical, the refined way

Access is by ticket, and the run is long but the house keeps capacity considered — your hotel concierge or private guide should secure a timed entry before you arrive so the visit never becomes a queue. Allow two to three hours; the embroidery alone rewards a slow eye.

The Museum of Art Pudong sits on the Lujiazui waterfront, a direct private-car run from the Bund or the French Concession in well under half an hour outside peak hours. A guided visit means someone else handles timing and transfers while you simply arrive — and the district's riverfront promenade is worth a slow walk before you leave.

  • •Timed entry — book ahead via concierge or guide
  • •Allow 2–3 hours for an unhurried visit
  • •Under 30 minutes from the Bund by private car
  • •A riverfront promenade worth a slow walk
